PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a disorder characterized by failure to recover after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event.
People with PTSD may experience disturbing flashbacks, have trouble sleeping, feel emotional numbness, have anger outbursts, and feelings of guilt. They may also avoid things that remind them of the event, and lose interest in things that remind them of the event, and lose interest in things that they enjoy.
Here are 10 signs a person may be suffering from PTSD :
Giving a "Big" reaction to something you consider "Small".
Avoiding making eye contact.
Trembling.
Staring off into space and zoning out.
Expressing a strong desire to be alone.
Going Silent.
Shutting down emotionally.
Presenting self-soothing behavior.
Avoiding physical contact.
Expressing a strong desire to move to a "Low Stimulating" Environment.
What is the most effective treatment for PTSD?
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is said to be the most effective treatment for PTSD.
It's a type of psychotherapy that has consistently been found to be the most effective treatment of PTSD both in the short as well as in long term. CBT for PTSD is trauma-focused, meaning the trauma event(s) are the center of the treatment.
If you or someone you know has PTSD, I just wanna tell you that there is no timestamp on trauma. There's no formula you can insert yourself into to get for horror to heal. Be patient. Take up space. Let your journey be the balm :)
A love letter to those of you living with a mental illness :)
You are enough.
You are seen.
You matter in this world.
You are both the sun and the storm, a beautiful contradiction.
I love you for exactly who you are.
My deepest wish is that you learn to love yourself in the same way I love you.
You are never alone.💛
